Even before COVID-19 catapulted the global workforce into the digital space, the 4IR was a driving force behind the ultimate user expectations. With viewers evolving and content consumption methods constantly changing, OTT platforms like Discovery+ were forced to look at new ways of creating a unified and effortless user experience.

Given that the channel caters to all device types and is compatible with tens of thousands of models, Discovery+'s rapid growth was hardly a surprise. It is expected to grow with compelling content and further expansion into new markets.

<The challenge accepted/>
Our mission was to build a seamless and intuitive multi-experience for the user and accommodate the Discovery+ platform's rapid expansion and projected growth.
<Fit for purpose and built to grow/>
Our first step was to map every micro-touchpoint via an intelligent and empathetic eco-system by deploying a flexible and ever-scaling managed team. By taking ownership of the code and autonomously executing it as an extension of Discovery+'s current systems, we ensured that it was at such a standard that the platform could be expanded indefinitely.
<Evolving from API to real-time monitoring/>
We moved away from gathering data via API by collaborating closely with MUX. We implemented a new solution that pushes the data into Amazon Kinesis Streams for real-time monitoring. This allowed us to pre-empt challenges, and along with our proactive approach, tackle obstacles and issues well before Discovery+ ever knew they were coming.

Multi-device experience
With users owning more than one device, the goal here is to deliver a consistent experience across devices, regardless of where the user starts, continues, and ends the journey.
Personalisation
D+ strives to offer an experience that is constantly growing with the user. Functions like creating a personal 'Watchlist' and easily access your collection.
Voice search
User can search for their favourite shows, shorts and episodes with an efficient and responsive search engine with a platform-specific voice command feature.
One-Click WhatsApp Video Share
3 to 5 minutes short clips, which can be viewed and shared (with a special one click WhatsApp share). The videos are autoplayed with a turn off option, or viewers can choose to see full episodes.
Multilingual
Making sure that the D+ platform is accessable to all audiences, The content available in 8 languages (English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam).
